Current Exhibit: Poetry by Fire: Japanese Tea Ceremony
Ceramics
Marc Lancet, "Chawan," stoneware, 2008
EXHIBIT DATES: August 12 – November 20, 2009
Poetry by Fire: Japanese Tea Ceremony Ceramics presents tea
bowls, water jars, tea caddies, food serving trays, flower vases,
and storage containers made by contemporary Northern
California artists Marc Lancet, Scott Parady, John Chambers,
Michiko Kinoshita, and Jules Stout.
These artists respect and honor centuries-old Japanese ceramic
techniques and forms while sometimes departing from tradition
and inserting their own westernized contemporary perspectives.
This exhibition displays ceramics that range from the traditional
to non-traditional pieces that would not be found in a typical
Japanese tea ceremony service.
