Hanaire (Flower Vases)
Contemporary  Hanaire

Increasingly, I find myself combining
a love and respect for Japanese
forms with my experience as a
contemporary American sculptor.
The resulting Contemporary  Hanaire
are often push boundaries of scale,
form or texture. They present
appealing challenges for the ikebana
artist, often leading to dramatic
compositions.
Classic Hanaire
Ikebana compositions employing  my
Hanaire.

This page offers examples of how flowers
may be composed in the vases found in
this section. Often the same vase is shown
with two or more compositions.
The Andiron Hanaire Series
Flower vases are arranged in a criss
cross pattern on the floor of the side
stoke fire box in the first chamber of
the Dancing Fire Wood Kiln. This
loading strategy creates an "andiron"
of clay forms that keeps the burning
wood elevated so that air can be
drawn through the fuel and maintain
high temperatures These vases are
unique in form, color and texture and
comprise the Andiron series.
